Sarah “Caroline” Weigle, 90, of Jerome, Idaho, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Desano Place Assisted Living in Jerome. Caroline was born on August 16, 1935, in Jerome, Idaho, to Clarence and Thelma (Dobkins) Yingst and grew up south of Jerome on the rim of the Snake River Canyon.
Caroline attended Canyonside School through 8th grade, then transferred to Jerome High School.
Caroline married her high school sweetheart, Weldon Weigle, in 1956 in Jerome. She graduated with honors as a Registered Nurse from St. Alphonsus Hospital School of Nursing in Boise, Idaho, that same year. She worked at the Shriners Hospital for Children and Holy Cross Hospital while Weldon completed a degree at the University of Utah.
Caroline and Weldon returned to Jerome in 1969 to raise their family on their farm north of town. She helped with the sheep, raising many bum lambs. She also enjoyed the garden, flowers, and roses.
She helped Weldon manage the Jerome Lumber Company as both part-owner and bookkeeper. After they sold the lumberyard in 1998, she worked with Weldon in Weigle Engineering and Home Inspections.
Caroline donated countless hours of service to the city of Jerome and was recognized, along with Weldon, by the Jerome Chamber of Commerce in 2000 with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Civic Service.
Caroline was a tireless volunteer in many areas, including Red Cross blood drives, Cub Scouts, creating care packages for deployed soldiers, and the library. In recognition of her and Weldon’s efforts, the children's library was renamed the Weldon and Caroline Weigle Children's Reading Room.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donovan Yingst, of Meridian, and her husband, Weldon, with whom she celebrated 66 years of marriage. She is survived by her sister, Phyllis (Yingst) Rediker, of Jerome; her three children, Brett, Scott, and Anne Weigle; her grandchildren, Brittany, Robert, David, Eric, and Avery; and her great-grandchildren Ezra and Charlie.
Memorials may be sent to the Jerome Public Library, 100 1st Avenue East, Jerome, Idaho, 83338.
