SARAH CAROLINE
WEIGLE
August 16, 1935 – March 7, 2026
Sarah “Caroline” Weigle, 90, of Jerome, Idaho, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Desano Place Assisted Living in Jerome. Caroline was born on August 16, 1935, in Jerome, Idaho, to Clarence and Thelma (Dobkins) Yingst and grew up south of Jerome on the rim of the Snake River Canyon.
Caroline attended Canyonside School through 8th grade, then transferred to Jerome High School where she graduated in 1953. She graduated with honors as a Registered Nurse from St. Alphonsus Hospital School of Nursing in Boise, Idaho, in 1956 and married her high school sweetheart, Weldon Weigle, that same year.
She worked at the Shriners Hospital for Children and Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City while Weldon completed a degree at the University of Utah.
After living in Fort Campbell and Berea, Kentucky, and Moscow and Boise, Caroline and Weldon returned to Jerome in 1969 to raise their family on their farm north of town. She helped with the sheep, raising many bum lambs. She also enjoyed her garden, raising flowers and roses, sewing, quilting and crewel embroidery. She helped Weldon manage the Jerome Lumber Company as both part-owner and bookkeeper. After they sold the lumberyard in 1998, she worked with Weldon in Weigle Engineering and Home Inspections.
Caroline donated countless hours of service to the city of Jerome and was recognized, along with Weldon, by the Jerome Chamber of Commerce in 2000 with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Civic Service.
Caroline was a tireless volunteer in many areas, including Red Cross blood drives, Cub Scouts, creating care packages for deployed soldiers, and the Jerome Public Library. In recognition of her and Weldon’s efforts, the children's library was renamed the Weldon and Caroline Weigle Children's Reading Room, where the alphabet boards she designed and made still delight kids.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donovan Yingst, of Meridian, and her husband, Weldon, with whom she celebrated 66 years of marriage.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis (Yingst) Rediker, of Jerome; her three children, Brett, Scott, and Anne Weigle; her grandchildren, Brittany, Robert, David, Eric, and Avery; and her great-grandchildren Ezra and Charlie.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Desano Place Assisted Living, special family friend Ranae Capps, and Hospice Visions for their loving care.
No public service is planned.
Memorials may be sent to the Jerome Public Library, 100 1st Avenue East, Jerome, Idaho, 83338.
