Lawrence “Larry” Leland Carpenter, 81, of Jerome, peacefully passed away at his home on January 29, 2026.
Larry was born February 2, 1944, in Canon City Colorado, the son of Virgil L and Betty Jo Ziegler Carpenter, he was raised and educated in Colorado and Idaho.
He enlisted in the Navy in December 1963. He was in the Pacific Fleet during the Vietnam War aboard the USS RICHARD B. ANDERSON, USS SHIELDS, and USS PERKINS until May of 1971. He had station duties in Texas and California, and visited many places in between.
He met Phyllis Jean Howard, and they were married in 1961. From this union, they had four daughters. They later divorced.
In 1973, he married Carolyn Boyer; from this union, they had two sons and one daughter. They later divorced.
In 1983, he married Shirley Louise Dooley, and her two sons joined the family.
Larry worked hard throughout his life. He drove truck, farmed, and ranched. He loved the ranching life and always talked about it and his horse "Studley".
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his children, Angelia (Josh Sr.), Andrea (Bill), Lauri, Carrie, Anthony (Grace), and Adam. He has 24 grandchildren, 65.5 great-grandchildren, and 5.5 great-great-grandchildren. As well as his siblings, Alvin, Bruce, Lorene, and Dorene.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Dawn, sons, Larry Jr. and Roy Alan, both his parents, and two brothers: Gary and Ronnie.
Larry’s viewing will be held on February 4th, at 10 AM at Demaray's Jerome Memorial Chapel (3rd and Fillmore). Burial will follow at the Snake River Canyon National Veterans Cemetery in Buhl, Idaho, at 1 PM.
Following the burial, everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life at the Mountain View Barn in Jerome starting at 2PM.
