Obituary

Marjorie May Alexander Hagler of Jerome passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026.
Marge was born on October 9, 1927, in Lebanon, Nebraska, to Laurence Fredrick and Lucy Rebecca Daffer Alexander.  Marge's journey to Idaho began in November 1944, during her Senior year of High School.  Hard times had the family pack their belongings to start the long journey West. They arrived in Weiser, Idaho, where relatives had found a place to farm and jobs for Laurence and Lucy.
After graduating from Weiser High School, Marge attended telegraphers' school in Pocatello.  She later worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.  She worked at numerous stations in Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming, often filling in for the men called to duty during the war.  It was on one of these assignments that she met her future husband, Gordon Ronelle Hagler.  They were married on May 4, 1947, in Weiser, at her uncle's farm.  They were blessed with five children: Teresa, Stephen, Susan, Pamela, and William.  They moved from Pocatello to Castelford and eventually settled down on their farm north of Jerome.  They enjoyed 58 years of marriage together before Gordon's passing in 2005.
Ever a hard worker, Marge insisted on helping Gordon with the farm to ensure their success.  She could be found on a tractor out in the field, tending her vegetable garden or preparing wholesome meals for her family.  Marge was a talented seamstress who helped create one-of-a-kind fashions for her daughters and supported her children in all of their extracurricular activities.
One of her passions was her flower gardens.  Marge had her home surrounded with color and fragrance of all kinds.  One could sit on the porch at nearly any time of the year and see something in bloom.  You could almost always find Mom out engaged in hand-to-hand combat with any weed that dared pop up among her flowers.  Marge also showed great talent in making beautiful stained-glass creations, as well as embroidery, cross-stitch, crochet, and needlepoint.
Marjorie was very active in Eastern Star and rose up to be Worthy Matron in the organization.  She was a member of Daughters of the Nile and participated in Selah Club, collecting items for the Shriners' Hospitals for Children.  She was also a long-time member of the Jerome United Methodist Church.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; brothers, James Merlin, Howard Lee, and Terrell Fredrick Alexander; a sister, Dolores Anne Alexander; her parents, Laurence and Lucy Alexander; and her daughter, Pamela Jean Chappel.
Marge is survived by; her sisters; Gwendolyn Elsie Alexander and Charlotte Jean Alexander; her daughters, Teresa Sidwell and Susan (Ernie) Thomas: her sons, Stephen (Kathy) Hagler and William (Joanna) Hagler, her grandchildren; Scott (Ame) Sidwell, Westley (Melissa) Hagler, Elizabeth (Asad) Aboobaker, Rebecca (Daniel) Holderer, Matthew (Julieann) Hagler, Brad Hurd, and Becky (Nate) Hurd, great-grandchildren; Shelby, Ethan, Corbin, Aiden, Leah, Ophelia, Elora, and Ellorin.
We were blessed to have her as our mother, and she was an inspiration to us all.  She provided a safe and loving home that allowed her children to grow and prosper.  She was independent and active right up to her last days, refusing to give in to the toll that the years had inflicted on her body.
Mom loved animals, and they adored her.  Especially Randy, Lucky, and Miss Kat.   Not to mention the multitude of barn cats that found refuge at her home.  The family suggests that any remembrances could be a memorial to your local pet shelter or animal rescue group.  Mom would also be remembered by getting out in your yard or garden and planting flowers.
Graveside services will be held on June 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Filer Cemetery.  She will be laid to rest alongside her husband and daughter, Pamela.
Special thanks to the staff at Creekside Care Assisted Living for the care, attention, and patience during Mom's brief stay.
