Robert “Bob” Tippets Johnson
October 29, 1938 - October 9, 2025
Bob Johnson passed away peacefully in his sleep just weeks before his 87th birthday. Thanks to his beloved wife of nearly 53 years and the angels that work in hospice, he was able to stay comfortably in his Bliss, Idaho, home for his last days on this earth.
Born in Preston, Idaho, on October 29, 1938, to Laurance Marin and Edith Tippets Johnson, Bob was the youngest son of 4 siblings. As a young man, Bob decided he wanted to sail, so he enlisted in the US Navy. He proudly served aboard the USS Helena and the USS Ticonderoga for 6 years during the Vietnam War. He served with honor and earned awards and medals for his service as an electrical technician. After military service, Bob worked with his father building swimming pools across the northwest.
Later in life, he started his own business as an asbestos inspector. Both of these jobs allowed Bob to travel, which he enjoyed. He took his family on every dirt road he could find, and they spent every summer camping. Bob was a tinkerer and could fix almost anything.
He was also an avid reader and rockhound.
Bob always offered quiet wisdom, even if his kids didn’t realize it at first. Bob was an honest man who would do anything he could for his family. He will be remembered for his love.
Bob is survived by his faithful wife; Sharon Johnson; 3 children: Ronda Nejezchleba, Renae (Dylan) Deckard, and Robert Johnson; 4 grandchildren: Jacob Deckard, JulieAnne Call, Emma Deckard, and Samara Deckard; 1 great-grandchild: Remington Call; 2 sisters: Maureen Chesnut and Karen Nelson; and his dog, Misty Lou.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Johnson.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Snake River Canyon National Veterans' Cemetery.
